I am pleased to announce that I am currently accepting commissions for photographic portraiture of babies, children, families, individuals, and couples. All of my work is done on location. I will come to your home or meet you at a location of your choice (within 25 miles of Dunwoody, GA. Extended travel options available as well.)

Each portrait session is specially planned with you. To insure a relaxed and enjoyable experience, a full hour or more is spent at the session to meet our goal – to create a timeless portrait that you will treasure.

A creation fee covers the time we spend together planning your session, the photo session itself, as well as the photo selection and framing advice I provide during your portrait presentation. An online web gallery for sharing with faraway family and friends can be included if desired. Prints and enlargements are offered a la carte; purchase only those you love.

Below you will find my fees, print prices, policies, and other information to help you start planning your portrait session. I look forward to hearing from you.

Policies

The Portrait Consultation
During our portrait consultation at your home, we will discuss the type of portrait you desire including the setting. Clothing choices will be determined as well. Your session date will be confirmed at this time. A retainer equal to the amount of the creation fee is collected to hold your session time. This retainer is non-refundable, but a session may be rescheduled.

Rescheduling Due to Emergencies
Should you need to reschedule, please call 48 hours in advance. Your retainer may be applied to another session within 30 days of your original booking.  In addition, I understand that children occasionally wake up with a fever or fall and scrape their faces on the day of a portrait session. Please call me before the session – it will not be a problem to reschedule. No-shows without prior notice, however, will forfeit the retainer.

The Presentation/Ordering Appointment
A presentation of your images will be conducted within 10 business days of your session. .All decision-makers should attend since your print order will be placed at this time.

Due to the custom nature of my products, payment in full is required when your print, framing, or specialty product order is placed. Sales tax in the amount of 6% will be charged on all products ordered. Cash, check, Visa, and MasterCard are accepted.

Please allow 4-6 weeks for all prints and enlargements. Fine art and canvas portraits may take up to 8 weeks for completion. Paintings require longer creation times based on the scope of the project. Therefore, delivery schedules are handled on a case-by-case basis.

All digital files are the property of Suzanne Maitland, Portrait Artist, and will be kept on file for one year in the event you would like future reprints or enlargements.

Copyright Disclosure
All images are protected by federal copyright laws. Only Suzanne Maitland, Portrait Artist has the right to reproduce her work. Failure to comply could result in legal fines.

Custom Prints

Prints are available on a variety of materials including canvas, fine art paper, and photographic paper. Canvas and fine art prints are created as Giclees.

What is a Giclee?
The name Giclee (pronounced "zhee-clay") is derived from the French verb gicler meaning 'to squirt.' A Giclee is a high-resolution, archival-quality print produced by a sophisticated ink-jet process. It is recognized as a fine art print category in the same manner as lithographs and serigraphs.

Because no screens are used, the prints have a higher apparent resolution than lithographs. The dynamic color range is like serigraphy (silk screening). The Giclee process provides richer colors and superior accuracy than other means of reproduction.

About Composition and Print Sizing

When I create an image, I choose what I feel is its most pleasing composition and shape. The shape is defined by the ratio of the image's width to height ( the aspect ratio, W:H). I work with the traditional formats of 5x7 and 4x5, but also employ squares and less common — but more dramatic — shapes such as tall verticals.

Your print can be whatever size you would like, but the shape, or aspect ratio, of the image will remain constant. Thus, the width and height of the image change proportionally as the image is enlarged or reduced. Prints are priced by using the longest dimension. See chart below.

My custom sizing allows for more flexibility and variety than the limited "standard" sizes commonly available. To accommodate these unique sizes, I carry a line of custom-made, easel-back frames. Custom framing for wall portraits is available as well.

Paintings ~ Fine Art Interpretation

With stylus in hand instead of a paintbrush, Suzanne renders works of art with her own creative flair. Starting with a photographic image created during a session with her client, Suzanne uses techniques both old and new to "paint" a portrait that will be meticulously printed as a giclee on artist's canvas or fine art paper.

During the painting process, the image is painstakingly brush-stroked using the latest in digital painting software. Eyes are enhanced. Details are painted in. The "canvas" may be enlarged to a grand scale reminiscent of traditional paintings. New backgrounds are painted to support and augment the look of the finished portrait.

Suzanne uses her vision to take the initial photograph to new heights. Employing bold strokes and subtle nuances - she puts her own artistic touches on the portrait, creating a unique piece of art. In many cases, Suzanne is naturally drawn to particular images and will create paintings for the sheer joy of it.

Paintings are offered in sizes ranging from 14inches to 40 inches. All paintings are printed as Giclees on either fine art paper or canvas. Commissions start at $675 for single subject paintings. Multiple subject portraits quoted based on complexity.

Pop Art treatments are another option Suzanne provides her clients in her "Fine Art Interpretation" offerings. These works of art have a contemporary look and feel.
