First, let me welcome you to my site and thank you for your visit. I sincerely appreciate your considering me — and my style of fine portraiture — to create your family heirlooms. I promise to bring my passion, excitement, and creativity into every image I create for you.

By the very nature of my business, I get to know my clients very well. So it's only fair that I start by telling you a little about myself.

Monte and me

I am a person who only recently discovered she is an artist. My love of beautiful things and the arts is well known by my family and friends. I have always gravitated toward creative types and envied them. Photography was something I pursued lightly for pleasure. In early 2002, I chanced upon a website for professional photographers. I was intrigued and soon decided I wanted to learn more. I was encouraged to study with world-renowned photographer, Monte Zucker and attended his week-long class in May 2002. While practicing and learning, I discovered I had talents I never knew existed. When this revelation occurred, I was thrilled! At that point, I knew I had found the basis for my own business as well as an avenue to fulfill a long-held dream of creating beautiful things.

Interestingly enough, all the jobs I've had in my life have helped me reach this spot. Everything from working on my high school yearbook staff (including the last year as editor), to my first job out of college (BA / journalism) as a copywriter, mechanical artist, and salesperson in a small firm offering photography and brochure design to construction companies (no less!), to my stint as the office manager for a superb graphic designer (she does award-winning corporate design from her Baltimore studio), and later as a freelance writer. My desire to be an entrepreneur led me to seek a Masters degree in business from Johns Hopkins University. In 1990, I graduated with honors and had my first son. My second son was born in 1994.

I started my portrait business in the Fall of 2002 and I haven't looked back. I continued to study in-depth with Monte until his passing in March 2007. I am active in Wedding and Portrait Photographers International - a premier organization for professional photographers. Through my work I have met many wonderful people who have entrusted me with capturing portrait memories for themselves and their loved ones.

I invite you to browse through my portfolio to see examples of my portraiture. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.

Sincerely,

Suzanne Maitland
